One year, my parents gave each of us kids money to give to a charity of our choosing.
They gave us each a card with instructions and a check with a blank recipient name.
Everyone chose a charity to support and shared our choice with the family. We talked about what we were supporting, why it was important, how the money would be used. Where possible, my father sought matching contributions from his work.
I chose the summer camp I attended each year - contributing to a fund providing scholarships to campers in need.
To this day, my parents still regularly contribute to the camp in my name.
Their donations were and continue to be the most meaningful gifts I've ever received.
