It was my birthday. I awoke that morning feeling rather indifferent about it being MY day. We generally seem to focus on ourselves on our birthdays, don't we? Well, that year was different.
I called a florist and ordered a large, beautiful vase of flowers, and had them delivered to my mother's office. The card read, "Happy Birthday to me. Thank YOU!" Let's face it . . . we wouldn't be having birthdays if it weren't for our moms!
Mom worked with hundreds of women - and hardly a one didn't hear about (or come to see) the flowers, or ooh and ahh over the fact that SHE got flowers for my birthday.
That was many years ago and she still talks about it to this day. That truly was the gift the keeps on giving. Every time she talks about it, I know it meant a lot to her to be recognized like that - and that has become the best birthday gift I could have ever received.
