When I was eleven or twelve, my beloved grandmother gave me a dainty amethyst pendant for Christmas. A few years later, she gave me a small ruby ring for Christmas.
They were my first pieces of "grown-up" jewelry. I remember how I used to feel so sophisticated when I put them on for special occasions. I'd even spend hours in front of the mirror posing with the jewelry and feeling very adult.
I still wear the pendant and ring. Although my grandmother has passed away, I feel closer to her when I wear the things that she gave me. I remember how much we loved each other. It also makes me smile when I think about how innocent (and rather silly) I was. Wearing my grandmother's gifts is a wonderful way to make any day a little more special.
